Hello everyone,

Could you live with the graffiti on this coin for 10% over melt? ( And negotiable from there)...

Thanks!

R.

Just remember what you'll be up against when you eventually come to sell it.

@coinfrog, I know you're right and I knew that but it feels good to post sometimes for validation.

Thanks!

I like escudos, haven't purchased one yet but if the price was right I may be able to live with the graffiti... You always have the gold value to fall back on.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

This was my thought as well.

I posted a pretty wide selection of gold world coins on another thread... And the only coin that appeals to me on any rational (irrational?) level is this 1777 2 escudo.

The coins are at post 212 or such...http://goccf.com/t/261670

Not much risk if you can get it for less than 10% over melt. It'll always be worth at least bullion value at resale.

I would get it for 10% over melt. 5% over would be even better.

Let it melt. So much nice looking eighteenth century gold coins to choose from at melt value now. Save a better one.

Forum members are a lot more divided on this coin than I thought.

I am attracted to the date ... 1777 having some significance to me as an American. I know it's not 1776 ... If it were I'd have bought it but I'm on the fence on this one.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

@jbuck, I think I posted a single coin once that had unanimous agreement on grade. So you're right!

You can always count on at least one dissenter when Coinfrog posts a comment.

Here are a few more close up photos of the coin... The edge reeding is 70ish% worn off but evident.also some toning.

Curious what folks think.

Maybe it is just late in the day, but the graffiti is not as annoying and the reverse tone in interesting and somewhat appealing.
