Due to the 153 Days of Dansco Albums and this post I decided to start the Dansco 7172. The Dansco 7172 is a date set of dollars starting with the Morgans and ending at the SBA dollars. As I already had a few (about 5 Morgans and 2 Peace and some Ikes) they will be added when I get the 7172. Looking at the cost, I can do the vast majority of coins in MS, with only a few in AU or XF for the 1893 and 1895. The CC will also be costly, but it is a doable project. As I really enjoy filling in Albums, this will be a nice distraction from buying slabbed coins. I really really enjoy looking through raw coins and picking the best one for my collection. Like a lot of my recent collections, this will take a while as when I find something else that is part of my goals that will also get picked up and as I'm doing this by buying locally or at shows I'll only get what I like. As I get the Album and the coins, I will add to this thread. But the journey has started.

So what is the hardest part of doing the 7172? Well that will be finding the album at a reasonable cost. The album is unavailable at any of my hidden sources. So I broke down and did a search on ebay. The Dansco Dude Store had the best price for a new album, I ended up ordering from him. https://www.ebay.com/itm/326173243065Its been shipped and I expect to get it by Monday.

I've picked up over the years upgrades to my Peace dollar album and I had considered doing a Morgan Date set so I had a few Morgan's. I also had a set of SBA in proof, so I can start the album.

Very cool set! I was about to pull the trigger on getting a Morgan dollar Date Set Album, to go along with my slabbed Morgan's. Now I am seriously considering this one. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Great idea, hfjacinto. You made me start thinking about it... What would the estimated cost be for such a set in high-AU to MS?

Ed, I priced it out and the cost in AU to MS63 for all except for the 1893 and 1895 which would be XF the total cost is ~$6500. If I only do this, I could finish in 2 years and it would be a nice endeavor considering I can get 90% of the coins from my coin shop. The pricy ones are the 1892, 1893, 1894 and 1895 Morgans with the 1893 being $600 in XF and the 1895 being $660 in XF (Greysheet). The 1921 Peace is about $385 in AU. The CC Morgan will also be costly with an MS one around $400/$500. I have a 1921 slabbed that I will break out so I'll save there and I have a few already. The Ike and SBA are cheap so get them in Proof.

Also the Dansco Dude ( ebay) has 3 of the 7172 albums. If you buy one, tell them you got from this thread.

@Ed, the prices from Allens.
AU/Unc is usually an AU58/MS61, as Allens grades conservatively. AU is about AU55.
1892 AU-Unc $325.00 1893 AU $780.00 1894 O AU $318.50 1895 O EF $682.50
For the CC 1884 CC MS-63 $455.00
For the Peace 1921 AU $357.50 1921 AU-55 NGC $385.00 1921 AU-58 PCGS $448.50

Excellent project hfjacinto, may get a Dansco 7172 myself, assuming the cost would be higher as time doesn't help in delaying cost. Thanks for the break down.

Are these prices not a bit too high for coins to simply press them into a hole in an album? Last time I did that with the Littleton 19th Century type set, a good fraction of the coins turned into "Details". Edit to add: I just checked PCGS and they claim a complete Morgan dollar Date Set in AU58 will cost $9,550. To me, that seems like a lot of money to be inside an album. I think staying at XF45 ($3,490) would be more reasonable?

Its pricy, but its 44 silver coins. And 5 coins are half the cost of the total. You can do it much cheaper, but I want to do a nice album.

I just checked ebay and typed " Morgan dollar" in the search box. Guess what: 50%+ of the adds are from China. "Intact Uncirculated - 1893-O Morgan SiIver Dollar".  "
