After looking at it again, I don't think there is enough missing cupronickel to actually reach the pure copper core. Each clad layer is about 1/6th the coin thickness. The anomaly doesn't seem that deep. Plus that copper bit runs straight through the wing tip and into the field at surface level. I suspect the correct diagnosis is going to be a splinter of relatively pure copper in the cladding layer (which is itself 75% copper, 25% nickel).

I would like to correct one thing: in my first post, I said that the second cent on Error Ref was plated. I mis-read the date as 1994, and assumed the zinc core was showing. The coin is actually a solid 95% copper cent from 1944 with some kind of silvery metal inclusion. Probably tin or zinc.

The idea of a damaged planchet makes most sense to me. A piece/chunk of copper ending up in the metal sheet prior to minting is very possible.
Of course, just my best guess on this one while we wait patiently.

At some point we will exhaust our knowledge on this thread, the mods will click their heels three times, and we will pay no attention to the Mike behind the curtain.

As best I can tell, it looks like some kind of contaminant within the clad layer. I don't know if that contaminant is metallic. In any case, the presence of that contaminant either produced a gap in the clad layer or it led to some of the clad layer falling away before the strike.

In a 2×2 with the description attributed to Mike D. Is the probably the best way for this one.
(And maybe even this thread referenced.)
Mike D.'s name would validate the error best, I believe

Did anyone have any conclusions about the minor doubling? You can see it on the lower tip of the E as well.

Thank you Petespockets55, Morgans Dad and Tacc!! .

Im not sure about what I'm going to say thats why I want to apologize in advance if I'm crossing the line, I don't know if mikediamond will agree with this because he is very busy, and I don't want he waste is time but, I can send this coin to him if he want so he can examine it well and used as references to put it in https://www.error-ref.com. or I can send him the original images with better resolution too. Please guys don't be mad at me for crossing the line

Brandmeister, are you taking about the E of WE? If so, I'm not sure about it, is a little confused because it has some distortion, thats why I didn't point it, but I can try to check again later today and upload the image in I find something.

Thank you to all for all the input on this one
