Slab 1858/7 Flying Eagle-Clean, Conserve Or Leave As Is?

Jimbo48 Valued Member United States 250 Posts	Posted 11/07/2024 1:30 pm I recently purchased a slabbed 1858/7 Flying Eagle. the coin has an EF 40 details designation. My question is what is best to preserve this coin. It has corrosion on it and I am concerned that it might get worst with time. Any suggestions? Report this Post to the Staff

If it is not and not completely hard it would be a restoration project . Would love to have a go at that piece using some old Blue Ribbon coin conditioner or Coin Care . Report this Post to the Staff

DOCC Pillar of the Community United States 1502 Posts	Posted 11/10/2024 6:03 pm I would give it a go but that is me. Couple of days in Acetone, 12 hour soak in VC, and then back in Acetone. Won't change the color but might clean up the devices a bit. Caveat tho, appears neutralized now and you'll never change the grade or details designation so why bother. I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.
