I came across this 1967-P Quarter that has two parallel gashed through the obverse of the coin. One of said gashes/scratches goes all the way across the coin from the bottom rim just after the "7" in the date through Washington ending on the top rim between the "L" & "I" in Liberty. The other starts at the bottom rim between the "9" & "6" in the date and goes up until Washington's chin. At this point when I see lines/scratches that aren't raised I'm going straight to PMD, but after some searching I see that a "Strike through wire" is a thing lol

On the reverse there is a smaller, but slightly thicker gash that's starts at the top left wing and goes until the "P" in Pluribus.

Thanks in advance for always teaching me something new!

To my eyes it looks more like scratches instead of struck thru wire. Plus the quarter is well circulated, so I vote PMD, so only worth face value at that.

Yes looks like damage to me too. You can see small amounts of metal "smushed" to the side, which wouldn't be there is this was a strike through.

Well shucks, but that was my first gut instinct too. Thanks for the clarification/confirmation.

Spence gave a good example of metal pushed to the side. Think of a stick making a line in mud, the mud will pile up on the side of the trench you just made, same thing with a scratch on a coin.

1967-P-Quarter-~-Strike-Through-Wire?

This is a nickel struck through thread, but the idea is the same. You can see that the metal surface around the strike through is not disturbed. A hard object like a wire would leave a deeper impression—and probably more clearly defined—because it is hard, but the coin surface would still be flat around the object.
