This one looks pretty cool. Whatever is going on here it appears to only be affecting the bottom layer as the letters don't seem distorted. Interested to know more. Thanks

Great info, I really like the name, Design Devouring Die Wear sounds ominous, like the super villain of coin collecting. But seriously I read the article and was wondering how you can tell the difference in Ridge Ring and the letters just being worn down. I attached the picture I'm referencing from the article.

When a die starts getting old and fatigue after striking millions of planchet it'll begin to lose some of the original patterns and in cases such as this being struck on a copper plated zinc core the conditions will become more severe, simply it is due to die wear.
