Hey all! I have an 1896-O Morgan that I have researched on VAMWorld and believe may be a Vam-22. I would appreciate any opinions on the VAM, as well as thoughts on the authenticity of the coin. I know ANACS considers VAM-22 to be privately made, while NGC considers it genuine (I haven't found any info on PCGS' stance). Thanks as always!

Thanks very much for the second opinion Zurie! I went through all of the "O Tilted Right" varieties and was able to eliminate all but the 22. VAM-17 was close, but the date and mintmark positions seemed off.

Looks like 22 to me too. What is meant by "privately made"?

@MorganMike to quote the link that Bump111 kindly posted, "The privately made coins listed in VAM are exclusively those that are contemporary counterfeits made by the same counterfeiter that made the famous 1896-O, 1900-O and 1902-O Micro O counterfeits. Those three die pairs attributed to this counterfeiter have exploded to 30 die pairs over the past several years. As of May 2016, there were 16 obverse dies and 11 reverse dies listed."

All good friend. I'm curious if anyone knows whether PCGS typically slabs these as genuine like NGC does? I know there's some old ANACS soapboxes with them, but ANACS wouldn't slab this one when I sent it in.

Contact them directly and see, send it in to NGC.
