So I can't find much information about this small mint mark. I know it is a known rarer variety. Anyone shed some light on this and as how rare they are and possible pricing guides? Thanks.

I wasn't either until I thought there was something different about the mint mark size wise. Found it in a coin roll from the bank.

According to NGC, "Most 1934 D nickels display the Large D mintmark introduced with the cents of 1933. Perhaps only one or two dies utilized the Small D mintmark which had appeared since 1917. Though now reasonably well known, these varieties have not attracted much interest."

Now my question, how many coins on average could be struck on a die pair?

From where the link above came from is another link you may want to visit and post your coin (buffalonickelclub.org). They may have more information for you.

Any idea on a guesstimate on how many could have been Minted with only 1-2 die pairs?

There can be hundreds of thousands of coins made from one die and even the same with die pairs. That being said, you would have to find someone who has done a study of possibly the die in question, that's why I gave you a site that was dedicated to Buffalo nickels, I feel you would get better information there but could be wrong....
