At 83 I'm just getting back into coins, (Penny errors).
I thought this forum would be helpful once I figure out how to navigate it.
The picture is a 1909-S/S RPM-2 with what appears to be an S over stamped by the zero in the1909 date.
Any insight or info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I quickly checked Wexler and they show (2) 1909-S known RPM's. Neither looks like a match to your coin. Very similar but see what others think...

To CCF! It doesn't look like RPM-002 on VV. It looks like gunk around the mint mark.

It's not an RPM. That effect on the mintmark is due to circulation flattening. The mark behind the zero is either a stain or metal that peeled away from inner surface of the zero and got stuck.

If you zoom in on the photo you will see an "S" rotated about 45 deg. NE from vertical. Certainly not gunk!
Can you see the "S" under the zero in the date?
Thanks for the reply.

It might help if you saved the scope image to a memory card. Photos of screens add image artifacts which is why they are discouraged here.

to the CCF As others have stated, this does not match either of the 2 RPMs. The mark east of the mm and the mark inside the 0 is just corrosion. If we had a full picture of the obverse, I think there would be the same type of corrosion all over. Like it might have been through a fire.

I believe you gentlemen are correct after further evaluation.
I added these pic, as bad as they may be, for your further review.

After two months of looking and asking I believe you hit the nail on the head, (as us old timers say)!

Wixler indicated that the reverse may have a filling of the upper part off the E in E PLU. THE PHOTO IS NOT CLEAR ENOUGH BUT THE UPPER PART OF THE E IS FILLED.
I thank you my friend.
Next question..should I have it graded?
I have no idea of value and don't know if it would be worth it.

It's had the daylights beat out of it but that is RPM-002, as stated above.
