I'm not sure where to go for this....but is this one of the " In Cod We Trust" mint error coins?

@ahe, first welcome to CCF. Second, you will see that I have split out your reply into a separate thread. Best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin. Also, can you please confirm the date and mint of your quarter so that I can fix the thread title? Thx.

To CCF! Looks pretty normal to me. I think it might be just part of the design. The G's look funny on the newer quarters.

I can't believe people actually pay for those things.

NOT an error. That's the way the font used appears.

Tiktokers and Youtubers come up with things like this to take advantage of people, gain followers, and make money.

@AHelfer A closer, focused picture of the G would help. At the moment I would say no. As above, it is just the font used on this quarter.

Actually, it wouldn't matter if it was a C instead of a G because this is not graded proof or mint state.

I think an explanation is in order and for that you need to know how dies are made. The Master Hub is engraved with the design as seen on the coin. It is polished and hardened and used to press the design into a Master Die (creating a negative of the design). The Master Die is then hardened and used to press the design into a Working Hub. Finally, the Working Hub is hardened and used to press the design into the Working Dies (dies that actually strike the coin). Each Mater Hub creates multiple Master Dies. Master Dies create multiple Working Hubs and Working Hubs create multiple Working Dies. So, if this is an engraving issue, in all likelyhood it would go back to the Master Hub meaning millions and millions of coins would have the mistake making them worthless. If this actually appears as a C and is solely from a Working Die, there are really only two possibilities. The first and most likely is part of the G was polished away and has no value. The second is a partially Grease Filled Die which would be so minor that it has no value.

Quote: Actually, it wouldn't matter if it was a C instead of a G because this is not graded proof or mint state. Even if it is an issue, we've seen the highly polished proof versions, and it's a very small part of the design. You will never be able to say when it's purely one or the other. The continuum between a filled serif and not a filled serif is too small. One might not like calling the BIE die break an error but it is or it isn't (there), Same for In God We rust - under minimal magnification you see a ghost of the letter or you don't. No FG. Floating roof. Those have also stood the test of time. Most of the social media frenzy "errors" fade away in months, as the prevalence becomes obvious and the next great thing takes center stage. Homestead quarter windows anyone?
