I sent off my 'Alien' coins to be graded and thought I might as well send the 2 Crowns I have also as they seemed to be in reasonable condition.
Bought the 37 on ebay from someone who I had bought off before.
Think I got the 38 from my local coin dealer.
Here is the 38 I got back from PCGS.( new phone photos)

Should I send it back for them to clean and slab?
What would be the cost?
I probably will anyway cause I am curious and gullible .

Apparently the value of a 1938 crown in MS condition can break $1000. Like Greasy says, pictures of the coin might help. Did they offer any guidance on grade?

No need for photos , Keith is absolutely right about acetone.
When you are sending ANY coin to the grading services
an acetone soak or even better a soak in Koinsolv
( no longer available) is a must .
Do not pay the conservation fees to PCGS or NGC
ever !

I agree with Keith. Give it a soak in pure acetone. It should help with the PVC residue.

I looked up Koinsolv - it was composed of trichlorotriflouroethane. When that became unavailable due to environmental concerns, the formulation became a mix of n-propyl bromide, 1-propanol, oxygenated hydrocarbons, and epoxybutane.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Looked into to fees to restore coins and is very reasonable, not to say that PCGS have bulk supply of Koinsolv and just use that to restore coins.

I have acetone...... and are willing to use it.
The coin is nothing special, just seemed good value at the time and I really wanted one to add to my collection.
For me , I am sending these coins for grading to educate myself .
Live and learn, all good.
