I think I see some letters at 2 o'clock as well or they may be turkey tracks.

Upon very close inspection (10X) there is no lettering anywhere on either side of the coin.

That edge looks strange to me though, and I didn't notice the striations before. How does this compare with other blank planchets?

I've never heard or read this anywhere. Can not be right. If it was, you'd have a lot of coins out there that were struck underweight that the edge would look like this. Don't know what it is, but maybe Mike can respond.
