Hi all,
I haven't been posting lately due to work schedules, But I just found out that my favorite coin shop was robbed this afternoon.

http://www.statesmanjournal.com/art...ATE/90513033

http://salem-news.com/articles/may1..._5-13-09.php

They tasered and handcuffed him and ram-sacked his whole store.
They got away with over 150 lbs of coins and bullion.
He had a really good inventory. (really good , two hour road trip for me to get there, But worth it!)
Police have released the following descriptions of the two suspects:

Suspect 1:
White male adult
Late 20s or early 30s
6-feet 2-inches or 6-feet 3-inches tall
180 pounds
dark complexion with short hair and long sideburns
Wearing a dark hat, dark jacket, faded black pants and sunglasses

Suspect 2:
White male adult
Late 20s or early 30s
6-feet 5-inches or 6-feet 7-inches tall
200 pounds
short hair and long sideburns
Wearing similar dark clothing

A possible suspect vehicle was described as a red or maroon colored SUV or minivan.

Please be aware if someone tries to sell coins cheap,
Please call Salem Police Detective Jamie Vasas at 503-588-6050, extension 7153

Just a plan, but can you tell the police to look on craigslist or other classifieds in the Salem area? Also, crooks like these will usually cross-post in lots of cities (like all the way down to SF.

So sad during these economic times when everyone needs help there are still such evil people.

That is terrible. It is bad enough to be robbed, but physically abused as well.

I hope they are able to apprehend these criminals and give them the punishment they deserve.

And after they're caught......
I hope their cell mates are :

6'5" 275 pound avid weight lifters with gang affiliations and ......let's say......a lot of "issues" including anger management problems !. ....

"Home invasions" with similar occurances are going to be sadly "on the rise" too. The home safe vs. Safety Deposit Boxes debate may become more prevelant as well !

I hope they get caught soon, I would hate to read a similar story involving the same crooks.

Hopefully everything is recovered and the bad guys end up taking a few pieces of lead in the capture.

That way they can't do it again. Dead men cause few problems.

Was it a high crime area, or is Salem a somewhat dangerous city?

This is such a shame! And if they catch them they'll probably get off with community service and a couple years probation. It's just plain wrong!

Its a shame that the robbers most likely get away with the crime!the police have a lot more crimes that rate a higher investigation robbery which is a shame!
But we can only hope there not that smart!! most jerk & dope heads are not and they slip up and get arrested. and the coin are recovered!

They used the Taser on the shop owner at least 10 times, he said, leaving multiple pockmarks on his stomach

Makes me sick. Maybe these criminals will try this again and the shop owner blows them away.

...and that they or a family member has had a coin collection stolen in the past! That would definitely seal the deal!

This is a disgrace, I know one of the coin shops I frequent has been robbed a dozen times in the last 30+years. I know the last time, about 2-months ago, the 66-year old owner chased the person who grabbed the coin binder, and ran, only to find, the binder was chained down to the floor and it ripped out of his hands and the thief got nothing but caught later from some photo's taken at the shop from the owner's cameras. These things are going on more and more, Beware......

To bad we all don't have Texas "self" defense laws. I think in Texas you can shoot them in the back if they steal from you or a friend. :)
