At just a few hundred dollars over bullion value, I thought this coin might be a good choice. What are your opinions and comments? It's in a problem-free NGC slab.

That's one of my favorite designs of all time but I can't afford anything like that.

I don't know how to grade these but I will guess AU53.

XF40. Hesitate to go higher as the portrait of liberty seems weak below the crown. Other areas seem better. Even after the discovery of the saddle ridge hoard, this still remains a scarce date. Looks like a lot of value for a good looking coin.

The NGC grade is XF-45. The strong remaining luster would suggest a higher grade of 53 or even 55 IMO. However, Liberty's portrait has a slight glossy appearance which doesn't look quite original. There are no obvious hairlines scratches, but perhaps the obverse was buffed with a jeweler's cloth at some point. The 45 grade probably represents some net-grading by NGC.

Isn't the obverse just weakly struck? I had it at AU-55.
