I appreciate the comments. I am very cautious in buying on ebay these days as they are clearly behind the sellers.

This is what I got from ebay: Because ebay does not employ or train its Trust & Safety Customer Support Representatives to be experts in the area of coins and currency, we rely on expert opinions from knowledgeable people as well as reliable third party organizations. Your report will be reviewed by a group of members that comprise a community watch group for coin auctions. They then confer amongst themselves and either agree or disagree that the listings are problematic. If it is agreed that a listing(s) is fraudulent or improperly described, the listing(s) is then forwarded to ebay Trust and Safety for removal.

Thank you Zohar444 for letting me use your post for the other coin forum. They were happy to receive it. They also agree with you on the double posting. It is not correct.

That's likely the only thing that will get it pulled. Technically I don't think he's breaking any other rules.

I am less concerned about usage of my pics, nothing exciting there. I am more concerned about 2 potential winners for one coin. What if there is a buy it now buyer and the other auction has bids?

Well then, we should use the one thing that will get him pulled. Zohar, if you have your old auction and the pics are still there, report him via the CCF report link and send the link to your auction. Then you could at least save one bidder, maybe two, if both get yanked.

I am not sure this is an unfair practice or not. It is like having an auction with a BIN that does not expire after one bid. If the auction does not bring enough he does have the right to stop it at a decent time interval before the end. That was about 12 hours as I recall (?) I also know of several sellers who have store listings (on line not ebay) where an item is listed for a fixed price and then they put the same item on ebay in an auction. If someone buys a coin from the store inventory it is cancelled on ebay as "No longer available". To me it sounds like good marketing unless ebay prohibits doing it this way. Anyone know for sure what the actual rules are? Also speaking as a seller as well as a buyer - I find ebay does far more than it should to support buyers. Right up to fraud. They refund a purchase price EVEN if you can prove conclusively that an item was mailed REGISTERED. It happened to me. I stopped selling.

I have always felt that Buy it Now should remain an open option throughout the entire auction. The bidders who are trying to get a bargain price are ALWAYS at risk of losing the coin in an instant and it causes them to think "Should I spend extra and buy it now?" I think it makes it more exciting. The BIN option always takes precidence so a 1 minute BIN would be really great.
Of course when the BIN option goes away - I have also seen the high bidder end up going past the BIN price. I think the seller should have the option of pulling off the BIN whenever he wants.

Swamperbob, I sell on ebay as well. I am not sure I follow the logic of keeping a buy it now option in a separate listing. If I bid on an auction style, shouldnt I be entitled to win if I am the highest bidder? The whole credibility of the platform is gone if a seller can pull an item off. I agree with you in an instance where there is a SINGLE listing with an auction format AND a BIN option. Then you are selling one item and its clear a buyer can take it if he pays the full price rather than bidding up the auction.

Zohar444 - I have had several auctions cancelled when I was the high bidder. While it may bother me - I don't see it as a poor practice. Until the auction ends - the seller has the absolute right to cancel the auction for ANY reason. The only issue is how long before the end is a fair interval - 1 day or 1 second. I guess my question is - Should a seller be forced to sell an item below say an actual dealer wholesale (grey sheet buy), if for some reason no one bids on an auction? If you go to an in person auction, the auctioneer can pull an item at almost anytime if there are no bids as long as the bidders know the ground rules of the auction. I have not tried it lately, but when I have put a BIN price on an ebay item - the BIN option disappeared once there were bids. It is a waste of money. If ebay allowed both forms on one auction that would be acceptable to me. The retail price would be the BIN and the wholesale price is the silent minimum. But as it stands the only way to have it both ways is with two auctions.

In my view this is what a reserve price is for. If you have a minimum threshhold start the auction with that minimum. If you wish to draw bidders with a low start price I would think that one should risk having item sold below the desired price. Just my view as otherwise the bidding process has little value in itself unless it exceeds the desired minimum.
