I have this Roosevelt dime for awhile now, but I realized just few days ago that there are few things going on with it, so it has a Spike Head on Obverse, and a Die Crack on the reverse, but what called my attention was the mouth, what's that? And it is Die Polishing on obverse and reverse? Thanks

Note: My apologies for the too many pictures.

The mouth could be showing Die Chips and Die Cracks.

Thank you Errers and Varietys! I don't see Die Chip, but maybe Die Cracks?

They ran those dies into the ground!! Don't often see die cracks at the bottom of the torch. Looks like a clash remnant thru the L of pluribus. I think there could be a small lamination issue by the mouth.

Ohhh thank you Seeker! I didn't think on lamination issue, but you are right, it could be. That die crack doesn't look like small Cud near the rim? Oh I did not see that clash remnant, I need to look again in that part with a loupe, because I can't see with the microscope.

I see what looks like lots of die polishing lines on the field in front of the face, that could be a lam on the cheek, but laminations on clad coins is not all that common, so I'm not sure what it is.

Oops. This was a silver dime in 1955.

Since the area around the corner of the mouth looks incuse, I'm thinking a lamination or struck through something.

The upper lip reminds me of a cleft lip which might point towards a lam.
Also remember that when a die crack or chip starts to form, the surface of the die can rise and get "higher" as the Die Deterioration progresses. The surface rising will create an incuse area on the coin.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

MEMO from Mint Management: Die Department:
"Let's squeeze another 100,000 - 200,000 coins out of that Die before retiring it."
Very worn Die there.

Thank you Dearborn, Coinfrog, Petespockets55, jbuck and Tacc!

The reverse has a lot of polishing line too, the flame on the torch isn't complete I think is because of the polishing.

Yes, Lamination could be the issue on the mouth, maybe lamination crack?

Yes worn die indeed.

Guys, doesn't the die crack under the torch look like a small Cud near the rim? Reminds me of the one I once posted here from Lincoln Cent.

Coinfrog Thank you for the compliment for my pictures!
