If it sounds like it is too good to be true, then it probably is! A $11,000++ coin going for $600 is definitely too good to be true! However, I would call and ask the seller if there is still an intact Serial Number on the holder and if so, then check it online. Heck, if I had an extra $600, I would drive to Memphis to check out the coin in person. Who knows, someone might just hit the jackpot but by the same token, someone could get burned!

OK, I think I've seen everything now.
Show a broken, melted slab next to a coin...as some kind of reassurance?
Needless to say, once GO gets to see the coin I'm sure he'll know for sure.

Why not send it off again so you can sell it for $11K.

I want to say BS. Sorry.

That type of heat would have created discoloration on the coin. That coin did not come out of that slab.

ANACS was the first major TPG that we identified counterfeit slabs for. I suspect what we are seeing here is where someone has learned that the "bargain" ANACS slabbed coin they bought was a fake in a fake slab. So they cracked it, melted the slab and are now claiming it is a genuine 1796 dollar that was formerly slabbed by ANACS but the slab was damaged in a fire.

It sounds like someone is preying on collector's desires. The seller could easily send it off to be slabbed by ANACS and then sell it for a lot more, which means this is definitely a scam.

Oh I know it is. But I wouldn't be fulfilling my role as a comical pessimist if I didn't harass this guy
