I have been wondering lately about your affiliation with Australia Post.

crab eater I don't have any affiliation with Australia Post, I just read the emails sent from Australia Post and check the currency determination weekly.
ebay is also a good way to find new released coins sold as pre orders!

I wish I had an affiliation with Australia Post and then I would of been able to get the Bluey coins with ease, and all the other releases they have.

Australia Post obviously have no control over the coins once in the hands of the outlet managers and staff.

As usual heaps have been sold on ebay PRIOR to the official release. No big deal, that's the way it goes now. However I was surprised to see two "Cotton and Co" rolls (one each of the Women and Mens coins) sold on ebay already. Images of the rolls show consecutive numbers on the (so-called) security stickers. So I guess they might be legitimate rolls of the new coins?

The ebay records show the rolls were sold on 12 January- three days BEFORE the official release. Imperial Coins who roll the "Cotton and Co" rolls state on their website that the usual turnaround time is around three weeks for coin rolling. So, ASSUMING that those rolls are GENUINE, Imperial would have received the coins around 20 December. Well and truly while those coins were embargoed.

Imperial are an experienced dealer and a member of ANDA. ANDA requires members to "accept and follow the Code of Ethics, to promote, develop and maintain a high standard of moral ethics in all business dealings for members and the public".

So, does that mean any handling, dealing, trading or any other activities with embargoed coins other than what the RAM (or other contracted party, e.g. Australia Post, Woolworths etc) actually intended is acceptable by the RAM, ANDA or any other dealers?

From now on, is prior-to-official-release sales on ebay going to be acceptable and the new way collectors will purchase coins?

I wonder what other collectors think? Why bother with embargoes?

Surely not official rolls - the mint would be selling them too.

I'm guessing Cotton and Co are RAM stockists and get the coins before release so they can sell them on release day, but I suppose there's nothing to stop them breaking them out and rolling them before release day too.

People are going nuts! Some people are paying more for the privy mark coins on ebay than they would if they bought them from Australia Post! I wonder what the attraction with coins on ebay is?

You cannot rock up to Aus Post and ask to buy a privy marked coin. Each coin is in a sealed cardboard pouch so you cannot see which coin has a privy mark. You have a 1 in 10 chance of a coin having a privy mark so on average you would need to buy 10 coins to score a privy marked coin so $120. That is why privy marked coins are more than $12 on ebay. To make matters worse, those who acquire large numbers from RAM will probably be able to identify which pouches have the privy coins which will then be removed and sold on ebay. The rest without privy marks will be sold to luckless punters hoping to score a privy marked coin.

My understanding is that ALL the coins were privy marked and the one in ten chance is for receiving a yellow/green coloured coin with privy mark.

In any case, there were plenty of the yellow/green coins available on ebay too. As with the AFL coins in tubes with a one in ten chance of receiving coloured coins, the re-sellers (scalpers?) were able to work out which tubes/pouches had the coloured coins in them and remove those to pilfer the colored coins for themselves and sell on ebay.

The one in ten chance of getting colored coins would obviously be wrong if they are being removed before release or circulation. So, the luckless punters continue to get ripped off.

I agree, the Aus Post site is a bit confusing, but turns out all the coins are coloured (men and women) and have a privy mark. 1 in 10 coins has a special colour (fluoro yellow). These coins are the ones selling (or being sold) for a lot more than $12.

Must admit, I'm guilty of pilfering the odd coloured coin. Not this time though.

Just for fun ,i weighed the 8 (4 mens and 4 womens) coins in the sealed cardboard sleeves they come in.
2 of the mens coins were 22.57grams(the heaviest)
2 of the womens coins were 22.31 grams (the lightest)

The other 4 coins were around 22.45 grams.
I repeatedly re-weighed all coins 3 times.
I have not opened any of them ....yet.
I wonder why they are not all the same?
Has to be the cardboard sleeves that differ slightly in weight?
