Back when J.T. Stanton took over PCI to clean it up he came up with a brilliant idea of having experts in different series examine requested coins for a fee, and the label of said holders would include the signature of the expert to certify that they had examined the piece and agreed with its grade/authenticity.

I was asked to be a part of this 'Signature Series' program and agreed. Less than a year later PCI folded because the owner passed and the widow didn't want anyone else running the company.

The equipment and other assets of the company sold to David Lawrence who opened 'Dominion Grading Service' - or DGS for short.

DGS took the 'Signature Series' idea and ran with it, and has asked me to do Lincoln cents for them. I accepted, and just yesterday we sealed a deal on how the service would work.

Collectors who want to have their coins personally examined by me can submit their coins to DGS requesting this service. DGS sends the coins to me, I examine, attribute, and grade them, and DGS seals them with a label bearing my signature and sends them back to the collector.

I can grade normal Lincoln cents and/or attribute die varieties using the system published in my books and on coppercoins.com, and DGS will annotate the die number on the label. I believe the fee for this service to be reasonable, and am excited about the idea of once again having coins on the market that are in holders that show I examined the coins personally.

You can find out more about this service by visiting the DGS website at https://www.dominiongrading.com, clicking on the 'submission center' link, then clicking on 'signature series'.

Cool.

The AuthentiView service that is included for all coins valued over $100 is great. In light of the counterfeit coins and slabs out there, I don't see how the integrity of any grading service can be maintained without a reliable database of photos for verifying slab contents.

so I don't know alot about this grading thing but I did send stuff in to grading company that is as everybody calls them the top 4 and that was a waste of money. but I think the top 4 are very costly. so will this new company have as much pull as the top 4 I would think that they would with the list of will know people grading for them and I'm sure that this people would not be grading for them if they where a bad company. I just dont want to waste my money on grading my finds again. so what does everybody think ? is this a good thing and should I send my stuff in.i really would like to have it graded and be sure that thats what it is .
thanks

Chuck, This sounds like another step UP, on the ladder of your career,Congratulations, also I wish you well. I also feel this is an extremely sound idea for the grading companies, Having a noted "Expert/Grader" signing off on the coins. I personally feel that sometimes it is necessary for a coin to be authenticated/graded, and for that reason, I as the submitter would feel more of a person and less of a number, having an Expert I knew or know of, doing the actual authenticating.
I again wish you well in your Profession, Mike....

Wow.. I wonder if DGS knows just how much of a coup that was!

Congratulations, Chuck! That's awesome. Now tell him to hurry up and get your name up in the "Signature Series" section!

Either I overlooked it the other day, or they've made major changes to their page...Chuck is on there, along with photos and bios of the other signature series graders.

Chuck, if someone submits cents to be graded and chooses "Signature Series", is it luck of the draw on whether the coins go to you or Dr. Wiles?
