What the heck happened to Washington's neck? :o

Is that the goiter neck Die Deterioration mentioned on Error Ref? The soft die error entry shows a similar quarter, although I thought that modern die are cold pressed in the single squeeze process. Maybe it's just a polishing problem or even just a lighting artifact? Sure looks strange.

Thanks all. I like searching quarters because I find it less monotonous with the varied reverses. Of course, that adds a bit to what you need to remember with each year.

@nickelsearcher: It's no more difficult than looking for doubling in lettering. In fact, this one was very easy to see in the full reverse photo. The key is knowing where to look for each reverse.

@Brand: The neck appears to be a polishing issue. The definition is nearly gone. The other marks are hits. From the leaves to the roots is surface scratching with some dark toning. I had gone back and looked at that after creating the post.
