LOL, yeah, that ebay asking price is a bit of a fantasy. Maybe he's just showcasing it for a while before offering it at auction, or possibly just accepting offers. This is a basic overlay. I did notice that there are listings for John Adams $1 Position A and B, but I didn't do any further research into that. These overlays are using the proof coins, so possibly it will not line up perfectly, but it was way easier to see with dark fields.

Side-by-side comparison: The wishbone shape is the junction of Adams' hair, collar, and face. The long curve between Liberty's arm and crown is the edge of the face. The squiggly bit above the spike of the crown is the upside down cravat top. Edit: also worth noting, the real clash is not perfectly lined up. There is a bit of counterclockwise rotation and some x-y translation. A determined person could line up the cravat and wishbone precisely enough to tell exactly how much the dies were misaligned when they clashed. There are listings on MAD Die Clashes for Presidential dollars, but none for 2007 John Adams $1. So this might be worthy of submission to the die clash catalog. I would be curious to know if the edge lettering on this coin is normal.

the position a and B refers to the edge lettering. A would be readable with the obverse on top, and B with the reverse on top.

Heh. Thanks, Dearborn. I guess that explains why I couldn't figure out how A and B were different just by looking at TrueView pics! =P

That is a type of die clash that has not been seen often on J.Adams dollars, I would sugget sending it to Maddie clashes to register it after they start accepting submissions ( they ahve suspended accepting submissions for One year and not sure when they resume acceptance)

This is a fun find. Bit I think the person offering a die clash on ebay for $999.00 is wishful thinking by about $985.00 (if that). Clashes typically don't bring high values. Unless very dramatic.
