Don't know a great deal about old Canadian cents, but one thing needs to be stated:

DON'T CLEAN IT!!

It's a beautiful coin, and the spots don't detract that much. There may be something that can be done about the spots; wait around for some folks with more expertise on the subject to chime in. But, before you got impatient and did something harsh to it, I wanted to clarify for you not to clean it. It would all but destroy it!

Daddy is right don't clean it. You could use acetone to remove the green spots it works well.

Your 1919 Cent is NOT worth to send it for grading, even though it is a nice coin.It has to grade at least MS 62 before you would perhaps see a few dollars. List for an Ms 62 is CAN $ 35. However you can buy them on ebay for $10.
DO NOT CLEAN IT either.

Boy I'm glad you asked before you did anything to this beautiful Cent. Cardinal rule #1, never clean your coins. This of course excludes coins that require cleaning of some sort, like coins that hand dirt on them from being in the soil, or coins with PVC damage. Rule #2, never EVER clean your Copper coins. I think that with a little effort the verdigris can be halted without damaging the Cent. You might want to research that option, but please, no cleaning. ~ Jim

ok thanks for your views.this coin was rattling around in the bottom of my grans old jewlery box along with a few others,(some better some worse condition). Being new to coin collecting, all this reading and following links is starting to give me a sore head.so I thought about just posting the pics for your opinions.
thanks anyway
(at least you saved me money in not having to send it away:) )

Ouch, don't even use that obscene word (CLEANING) on this forum, A collectors worst nightmare when acquiring coins that are unseen when purchased or bought on E-bay from a seller that does not disclose this about the coin. Please Meerchant, don't even contemplate cleaning this coin or any coin that you have or acquire in the future.
There are soo many Key date examples that I've put aside purchasing simply because some uninformed collector made the bad choice of cleaning a coin. As for sending this coin for grading by a TPG, wait till you acquire an MS-63 or higher example. The cost of sending this coin off to a TPG will make the slab it's in more valuable than the coin. Remember it's the coin that you collect, not the case it comes in, after all this Forum is NOT called The Case Community Family.

Fantastic looking coin. Do not clean any coin.If you find a coin you cannot read or tell what it is maybe.

Copper/Brass does not clean well anyway. I just had a dark crusted coin that I was going to throw away. I used coin cleaner on it to see what it was. 1883 3 Pence. It is not worth much anyway but I can offer to someone at least.

Really its up to you and the coin. That is my opinion.
