Staining, or perhaps someone started removing the plating?

@Rubduck Nice looking cent. Appears to have some staining or environmental damage.

Maybe a partial plating error....How to tell? IDK...But the experts at TPGers can. Just saw (12/23/2024) a 88P sell on Heritages for $64 w/BP + S&H. So worth sending in to be authenticated and graded ?....HECK NO. Just keep it and add to your collection.

I'm guessing someone "erased" the copper plating, and now zinc rot is setting in for that area.

So have any of them that said that actually explained to you why they think that way? (Science project) I'm guessing not.
To tell you the truth it would be kinda difficult to tell what's going on with your coin unless it was actually "In hand"

Looks to have been exposed to something corrosive, the pitting on the obverse is a telltale sign.
