Beautiful 1944-S steel cent up for auction at Great Collections ending Sunday night. Already up to $305,000 ($335,500 with the BP). Anybody bidding? How high will it sell for? WOW, that truly is a fine, rare specimen! I could take out a second mortgage and do some bidding.. My guess is: $425,000

This is a fantastic coin with albeit a limited collector base who can afford it.
Thanks for the link Marve - it will be fun to see where this hammers at.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

It would be nice to be able to spend that on a coin. Heck, I have a hard time spending over $100. on a coin.

One time I accidentally screen printed a $5 T-shirt with purple ink instead of red ink. Later, that error T-shirt sold for $5189.75 including buyer's premium. True story.
In all seriousness, think of what a spectacular collection you could assemble for $300,000. This coin is just a leftover metal disc from last year that got stuck in a machine or hopper. Or some Mint employee picked one off the floor and tossed it into the material bin. It's not historical in any way, it's just a completely ordinary manufacturing mistake that happens to be rare.

I agree with you on many things, Brand, but not this.... At least in our little Coin World, this is most definitely history and will always be.
