Finally got some time to get back to this.
Yes, PCGS among others offer this service. I suspect starting this service originated with the 2019S ERP, where they would have the COA serial number on the coin slab, so the COA and coin are verified to be matched set. Nice. It's also a benefit for the early 19S ERPs with the signed COA.
One coin I obtained sealed in the mint box was a 2020 V75 ASE. I wasn't really sure what I was doing when I bought it and had it sent in for grading and I had that COA encapsulated as well. Not numbered or signed, I just wanted it protected. There is no way to tie the coin to the COA.
So getting back to the current issue, the Congrats set.
I now have 2 separate subscriptions from the Mint.
One will be opened and added to my OGP collection.
Starting this year, I've decided to have one graded, not because I want to see what grade I get, but to more or less have it certified as being a Congratulations Set ASE.
From the start, the Congratulations Set has been in a white presentation folder, which is pretty difficult to open (to get the coin out of) without damaging the folder.
This year, it is the normal coin and clamshell with a different sleeve and COA. So going forward, it will be possible to put a different proof ASE in the clamshell.
There are a lot of my ASEs in different sets I have that could be from a different source. There's nothing I can do about that now.
But decided this would be a good one e to go ahead and slab, and I might as well get the COA slabbed since it's be there at PCGS anyways.
