I found this 1988 D LMC FS-901 about five or six years ago and finally sent it off to be graded. I'm quite happy with the result. It was my first big find in the wild. Edited by Jim0815 01/06/2025 7:21 pm

sorry for my dumb question here - what is a FS-901 for Lincoln cents? is that from VV, Wexler's, or CC?

Thanks guys! Dearborn, that attribution is from Bill Fivaz and JD Stanton. Hence the FS and it is in the Cherry Pickers Guide.

Nice looking example rare variety tough to find. My example is AU BN with counting machine marks. Seems for a price you can pick up the 88 P with some effort but the 88 D is the tough one, don't see them at auction much. Pop reports of certified 1988 D 901's are lower than 1992 Close AM. Will this coin ever get the attention recognition it imo deserves? Beautiful coin.

I hate that it was designated as a Wide AM, from 1986 to 1992, they all have a Wide AM, and yes, it is the RDV-006 with the flared G.

Thank you, LuvmyCAM, it is a rare bird to have let alone an MS Red.

Congrats on successfully grading a rare variety caught in the wild! =) 1988 FS-901 is the 1989 RDV-006 reverse with flared G in FG. I just asked about that the other day, for the very reason that PCGS confusingly calls it a Wide AM, even though the variety is on the designer initials.

Quote:I think it might be the RDV 006 Flared G Wide AM variety on VV (Die 1, 2, or 3) maybe? http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...DRDV0061.htmPlease let me know if I am incorrect. igwt79, VV only has three die pairs for this variety but Wexler has thirteen. Jim's does not match any of the three for VV, as the mm location is wrong but there are markers on Wexler's die pair #4 that match. Jim's pics are on the right with red circles around the matching markers. Here is a link to Wexler's listings for this variety. LINK https://doubleddie.com/278743.html
