I just asked about that the other day, for the very reason that PCGS confusingly calls it a Wide AM, even though the variety is on the designer initials.
Brand, just to be clear, because this comes up often, the PCGS " Wide AM designation" has nothing to do with the more well known WAM reference for the 1998, 1999 and 2000 cents. It refers to the thickness of the font between RDV-005 and RDV-006, where the A and M are slightly thicker on the RDV-006, as I have pointed out in the VV pic below. It is very confusing that they use this reference that is already being used for the obvious varieties though and should have been thought through a little better. The time sequence of the discovery of each variety may have had something to do with this too though.

ADDED: Larger pic of the difference.

-makecents-, Excellent information! Thank you!!! This type of response is very helpful and much appreciated.
You are very welcome. Many folks do not even realize or maybe care, that there are different die pairs when it comes to these varieties, as there are several for the Philly variety too.

-makecents-, the only visibly different termination there is the upper right M corner. I just recently looked at over 250 1988 cents, keeping a few 1989 on hand for reference. Because someone (possibly you) mentioned the A in America tips on a different thread, I had been looking at those. The variations due to Die Deterioration make them all nearly indistinguishable. i.e. the EDS 1989 in many cases seemed thinner than the LDS 1988.

I found this 1988 D LMC FS-901 about five or six years ago and finally sent it off to be graded. I'm quite happy with the result. It was my first big find in the wild.
Fantastic!

Just passing along information I have been taught, I think by Coop. I can easily see the difference between the two fonts but understand if you do not.
