I've come across this is my grandfathers coin collection I've inherited.
I'm guessing this was something NOT mint related?
Any info is appreciated as I'm very new to this.

The question you always have to ask yourself is how could that have happened when striking a metal disk with two metal dies and a metal collar.

If there's no way it happened, it's damage
