Just thought I would share this. I thought it was pretty cool. Probably the oldest Wheat cent I have ever received in change plus on top of that is was better than the one I already had in my album so guess where it went, lol. I got it on one of the self checkout lanes. Saw the back first and thought, "neat, probably a 1956 or something" then I turned it over and saw the 1928 and "Eureka". I know they aren't worth much but it was one less I had to upgrade in the future. The one I had in the album was G-4 at best and this one I graded at least F-12 and possibly F-15. Was a good day! Nice find! I got a 1926 out of the last box I searched. It was vg at best. It's getting alot harder to find the older wheats in circulation! Congrats!

Good story Dean. I've been getting a couple a week in change lately. They are 57's and 58's. I wonder if someone is seeding commerce to spark interest in coin collecting?

I just got a 1955-D and a 1930-S in my change today. The 30-S is a worn G on the obverse, but VF on the reverse with full lines in the wheat ears. I had to look at it with a loupe to see that it was a 1930-S, because of some date area wear (it looked like it could be a 1920-S, at first glance). The '55-D is VF on both sides. The oldest Cent I've had in change was a 1909 (Philly, no VDB) last year. I'd have to get an Indian Head cent in change to beat that (a few people on here have received IHC's in change!). 20 years ago, I got a 1904 Liberty nickel in change, low AG. I even said (at the time) "I can see why they spent it!" Even after a month in vinegar last year, you can barely make out the "E Pluribus Unum"...

I have found one roll searching. I guess my best find have been 1900, 1909, 1915d and 1917d

Its always great finding wheaties in your change but its even more exciting when they are from before 1940!

I found a 1916 in my usual 10 roll/week search. I average about 3 wheats/10 rolls.
