I need help determining if my 1982 penny is a small date or large date. It's weights 3.1g

Your coin is a large date.

This is (as noted) a large date coin - and for evaluation purposes, the image size is just fine. But please get into the habit of cropping your images to the edges of the coin, This will allow for a larger image to be produced without any distortions.
Cropping will also reduce the file size to ensure that it is under the 300K limitations for posting them.
