Take a look at my post in the Classic coins forum:

https://goccf.com/t/47485

All photos use a Canon Rebel XTI (10MP) camera with Tokina 100mm Macro.

For the flashy Proof photos, I used a copystand with a 75W incadescent bulb (with diffusing paper) pointing into a reflective glass setup to shine light onto the coin indirectly.

The flat light type pictures use a standard 60W bulb in a lamp the did not directly shine onto the coin but just provided ambient lighting. I used a tripod for these pictures.

thanks for that. Lighting can be tricky, especially with very shiny surfaces.
One more challenge for the long-suffering coin-collector ...

That is amazing that the difference lighting can make. Some shots don't even seem as thought they're the same coin. Thanks for this.

WOW! That's a real eye opener.
Now I have to hope that what I'm seeing is actual and not just a bad photograph.
There is nothing like seeing the coin, with good lighting, in the hand.

The photos are GREAT! If you ever get a chance would you post pics of your set up? Lighting has ALWAYS been a problem for me and I'm always looking for solutions.
