I suspect this is an ordinary 1988 smooth FG, but that little hook on the bottom is confusing me. Also, the G post is a bit thicker than usual and protrudes relatively far out from under the top termination. Tosser? Jackpot?

I can't tell for sure from your close-ups.

With these daylight photos, I think it is just a bit of Die Deterioration or die polishing. When the light is less harsh, that gives the appearance of substance.

Thanks for the help, guys. =)

Tacc, that is a nice diagram. Did you make that one, or is it a Dr. Coop slide?

I didn't see COOP's name on the page I downloaded from, but sure looks like his stuff.

Snapped a quick image in the axial box. When the die lines are deepened into shadows, the FG looks way thicker than a normal smooth FG.

Perhaps somewhere in this hoard, a real Flared FG is still waiting to be found! =)

Compare it to a 1989.

Not what you were looking for but did you check the DDR's?

-makecents-, I have not really checked any double dies or RPM from the Lincoln hoard yet. I was only doing initial checks for the very obvious stuff like the Wide and Close AM transitional reverses, including the Flared G.

I took a look with my magnifier, and I see no evidence of a DDR on this coin. Just some halos around lettering and devices from Die Deterioration, or possibly some die polishing.
