Hello everyone! I was just hoping to get some opinions on whether or not you think that this 1903 Indian Head penny has been cleaned or polished at all? I know there's nothing special about the year or the coin in particular. I'm just curious as to some opinions on the cleaning matter because of what someone told me which is they were convinced it had been cleaned when I'm not so sure?
The bottom picture is the same coin just different lighting.

Environmental damage for sure. The last picture sorta looks like a acid treated coin, perhaps a vinegar bath?

The surfaces show extensive environmental damage. Cleaning status does not really matter as the corrosion is enough to detail the coin.

Please edit your thread title to add date and denomination. It's always important to add that information to the thread title. Thanks!

no problem, could you give me an example though? Is the 1908 date and the denomination of Indian Head penny Insufficient?

Your original thread was titled 'Has this coin been cleaned?'

There was no date or denomination in the title.

I asked both you and a Moderator to edit the title. Appears a Moderator cleaned it up on your behalf and now it is just fine.

Please do so on your own for future threads, it makes the topic much more informative. Thanks.

Most definitely cleaned, likely a dirt coin that got an Acetone/DW bath - or more likely, as MrT stated, vinegar. ED for sure, toast. People that use acids on copper coins should just stop already.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.

I say this was a submerged coin that someone later tried to clean. We have a heavily-chlorinated fountain at work, and copper cents tend to look much like this one does after some time in there.
