I am looking to buy a large silver coin. I like the look of the silver eagles and the finish (the non shiny, almost white look), but I was looking and see that there are other ones that are larger and would really like a larger cool looking silver coin.

Can you guys let me know which one I can get for the best value? Value to me is
1. Closest to spec price of silver for the diameter of the coin.
2. Not a fake.

Australian Silver Kookaburra 2 oz is 53mm
Chinese Silver Panda 5 oz 70mm
Libertad 2 ounce 48mm

The goal of this purchase is to have a nice large coin, I will handle it. Is brilliant finish worse if I plan to handle it? I know silver does turn if touched to much. Does anyone know of any other cool large coins that are not to much more than the currently made bullion coin prices?
Rest in Peace

Buy what you like, that way you have no regrets! I personally like the Libertads although the one ounce or onza is large enough for me. It will be your coin to do with as you please, so if you want to handle it, feel free! On the other hand if you want it to stay pristine put it in a protective cover of some type (PVC free)

Yeah the whole point of getting a large one is to handle it because I enjoy my Silver Eagles so much. Which of those I listed is lowest priced over spec price?

Which might hold up to being handled the best?

I'm no expert by any means but I think the larger the coin the less over spot per ounce you pay. In 1 ounce coins I think you could probably get the Kookaburra the cheapest

You would think that would be the case but it seems the larger the coin the more expensive it is.

If you want a coin to "hold up", hold it by the edges...

Sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it, too.

Well it is bullion. As long as it can be recognized as a legit coin I doubt it will fall below spot price.

Yup, but then again the lowest premiums are for large bars.

I can't help but to smile! I hedged a lot in at $12.44!

However, the lowest premium coins are either Maples or Philharmonics.

If you don't care if handling lowers it's value by a few bucks, then don't worry about getting the best "value" when you buy it. Buy whichever one you like the most.

Good call. I think the Panda coins will tarnish quickly though. Does shiny tarnish quickly?

I stay away from anything coming from China...too many fakes are out in the market.

Not really - If handled/stored properly, few coins tarnish quickly. Any silver coin can tarnish over time (it usually takes several months at least) but if it's strictly a bullion coin, you can dip it in E-Z-Est and remove the tarnish in seconds.

Have you considered giant silver eagles? They vary in size with most ranging from 1/2 troy pound to 1 adv. pound and are often available for a nominal premium over spot price. Though technically not coins they are actually huge silver rounds that look like ASE.

If you are looking for size
the Kookaburra is the way to go

the Kookaburra one of the most popular silver bullion coins among both collectors and silver investors. The Kookaburra comes in four popular sizes, 1oz., 2oz., 10oz. and kilo (32.5 oz. - the worlds largest silver bullion coin.)

I have bought several rolls of ASE bullion coins, and the first thing I did with my first roll was pull two out, one for my pocket and one for my sons pocket. there size and weight feels great in your hand. I carry it every day, and yes it is showing significant wear but oh well ..i love it
