At a recent coin club meeting, one of the members brought in a 1908 Barber dime that purportedly had a D mintmark punched over an O mintmark. I can see that happening similar to the O/CC Morgan dollars. Has anyone on the board heard of this? I did a quick search and couldn't find it discussed. Has anyone found a reference about if/when this was done elsewhere?

Thanks for your help.

Wexler has one listed, 1906 D over O west. Here's the listing:

Thanks, @nfine. It was, in fact, a 1906 (not 1908) that I saw. And, coincidentally, the person listed as having submitted the coin to Wexler is the person from my coin club! This must have been the coin he brought with him. Since I know it takes a while to get something into Wexler's, it must have been farther back than I remember seeing the coin.

I wonder if there are others out there of different years. I've been looking at various year dimes for a little while and have looked at quarters and half dollars as well.

I do hope to see another example of the 1906-D D/O come up.

I worry about it being strong Machine Doubling that was worn down. We just delisted a Barber RPM recently for being just that.

Thank you, @Tanman. Interesting thought about the possible mechanisms. I'm regularly looking for other examples, hopefully in an earlier die state.

Interesting
It does indeed look like a D/O OMM to me also; is something else for me to now be on the lookout for in the future

FYI for those out there should know, the Denver mint branch began minting coins starting in 1906, and the New Orleans mint branch closed down in 1909 so there was an overlap of three years where this sort of OMM could occur.
