Hi pls. help me to determine what error / object is located within the face of Lincoln. I have not been able to locate an example. Is it a staple?

It is zinc rot. More than likely, the coin was damaged, exposing the zinc core that is now deteriorating.

Agree with -makecents-. Note that ' no mint mark' = minted in Philadelphia.

Looks like the rev. was hit hard which caused the design on the obv. then as described above happens.
