Quote: You shouldn't have deleted the original post, this is a great thread for everyone to learn and compare notes. I agree @numi. Looks like the OP re-posted images of their coin, so I'm going to combine the two threads. @lit, for next time, please keep up your old pics and threads as other folks can learn from them too. Also, please don't start more than one thread for a single coin. Thx.

Ok yikes I've made things worse then. Sorry about that @lit!
Here is a separate thread for your second coin. To help us out in the future, if you are going to be posting two or more coins with the same date/mint/denomination, please label them as #1, #2, etc. I've modified the title a bit to get it across that there are two different coins and help others avoid the same confusion that I had.

No worries @lit! The fault is largely mine on this one. I hope that you continue to post your questions here.

Your second to last image seems to show some flakes (metal?) coming off the coin. (Some still look to be there.) FWIW- After WWI (1917, 1918, & 1919) the mint went into overdrive producing cents for commerce. They overused many of the dies and I've heard stories of some freshly minted coins looking almost "slick", like they had already been in circulation for decades.
Occasionally, when punching the MM onto the dies, metal was displaced and can cause a slight "hump" near the MM on the die. When the die strikes the coin, this "hump" can show up as a slight depression on the coin. The more circulation a coin has, the darker the depression seems to become and a little more noticeable.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

One thing that might help is that the only thing that has to match exactly is the MM position. That's the first thing to find. After that, markers are just to confirm the variety. Markers can change but the MM position always stays the same.
