I went to my bank (NC SECU) and used the machine to cash some change in. I checked the coin return/reject and found an 1864 Indian Head. I googled it and found out that there are 3 different varieties for this date. I don't believe it's the Longacre cent, and I'm not sure of the weight. But either way, it's a pretty cool find!

It may have been rejected because it was a copper-nickel cent. They are thicker and heavier than bronze cents.

It should weigh about 4.6 grams if it's copper-nickel. You should also check the thickness.

Thanks!

It's pretty thick, and it actually has the same color as a dime or nickel. I will get pics up ASAP.

I love hearing about finds like that.
Last month I went to the drive through at my bank and asked for a roll of half dollars. I pulled a 1941-S Walker and 1960-D Franklin in circulated condition from the roll!

Is this what is known as a "fatboy" IHC? (Forgive the naive question.)
