Looking closely at the date, it appears there may be a re-strike (top right of the first 1). Opinions?

And you can tell why them call them "denticles". The edge markings look JUST like teeth in this picture!

Fine looking coin, I'm no pro, but give it MS-63.
I'm new here and interested in how others will grade it.

Very eye appealing piece!

My guess is AU53 overall; the reverse is very close to MS and the obverse closer to 50.

The good hair and wing details indicate it's a pretty strongly-struck coin. Therefore, the lack of detail on the upper wing edges and head have to be considered as circulation wear, leading me to call it a very nice AU50 example.

with the AU grade.

Probably low in the scale of AU is my best guess.

I was thinking AU-53 to 55, but the obverse looks kind of "lusterless" to me for that grade. Maybe it is just the pics, but I'm hoping it hasn't been cleaned/dipped. Does it have a cartwheel effect in hand? Nice coin!

Please explain the effect and I will check for it.

(This is why I love this Forum! I have no idea what this effect is and now I will!!)

TO check for this, you hold the coin at an angle to direct light and slightly rotate it back and forth. If the coin has luster, you should see bright light rotating around the fields of the coin in a circular motion(aka the cartwheel effect). This is the effect of mint luster. On a coin that is more worn, there should be no rotating light as the luster is worn off.

You can take any mint state coin(pick a random newer Lincoln Cent as an example), and you should see full cartwheel luster. On your coin if it grades AU, should still have significant luster around the stars and date on the obverse, and the lettering on the reverse.

One of the signs of a "cleaned" or overdipped coin is that it will be lacking in the cartwheel effect. Instead you would see hairlines reflecting light, or it might reflect the light more evenly.

if this coin were mine I would probably grade it EF-45 but I can see where it may be graded AU-50 and be acceptable

Bryan1315... I was thinking EF too, but everyone seems to like the AU grade. If it still as the luster, then I guess it is AU. It looks like it doesn't from the pictures.
