FS-801 Doubled Die reverse variety. Nickel is VLDS++. All the Die Deterioration flow lines create tremendous luster.

Might be worth noting that PCGS is very generous with die state for the 1954-S (although I will likely not have the coin graded and attributed).

I agree with E & V. In looking at examples yours seems to be a later die state FS-801. Collums are almost gone where some of the 65's have a little more detail there.

Got those marks on the shoulder too. Love the visible die marker between the N & T in Monticello!

Thank you for posting this! I would have looked at this coin and culled it. Always appreciate seeing new and exciting varieties!

I ran across a batch of MS63 PCGS slabs listed on ebay today. All of them had tremendous Die Deterioration like the coin above. Most had a brilliant gleam as well. So apparently PCGS will knock the nickel down a couple pegs for such severe Die Deterioration, even if the coin is otherwise very nice.
