I'm not sure if I chose the right category. It's not too soon yet that I plan to go on a trip to Asia. As a numismatist, I am interested in the question of where I can buy coins. I know that there are very good places for collectors in Hong Kong and Jakarta. Do you know any shops in Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur or maybe Singapore? I checked the dealer list on the NGK website, but as my experience in Bangkok showed, they may just be offices, with no way to buy anything.

When you mean chop coins, do you mean chopmark Chinese coins?
There are flea markets but it's one of those buyers beware places. Counterfeits are very bad even 20+ years ago. Who knows how bad they are today.

@slerk, there is a very good old thread by @ultrarant where they travelled the world and posted about the coin shops that they found in various locations. I'm not sure that there is overlap between the places in that thread and your travel plans, but it is probably worth a read. Here is the link: http://goccf.com/t/261670If you happen to find some good spots, please add on to this other thread when you return. Thx.

Quote: When you mean chop coins, do you mean chopmark Chinese coins? . I wanted to say "shop" not "chop" @Spence Thanks for the link. In Hong Kong, prices were indeed high. But I still bought a Macau banknote there. I'm looking for some really good shops or markets where there is a large selection. Not all countries have well-developed numismatics and you can find something for yourself.

I will visit Bangkok, Manila and Ho Chi Minh City in the near future. Perhaps someone knows good numismatics shops in these cities.

@slerk, will you only visit the south of Vietnam? I stumbled upon a currency market in Da Nang earlier this year--bundles of counterfeit "play money" Euros, Dollars, etc. I didn't find any legitimate coin shops there, but I easily could have missed them.

Quote: will you only visit the south of Vietnam? . I will only have a few days to visit each country. I will only be in Vietnam for 4 days, so I will hardly go anywhere outside the city.
