I ran across this 2022-P nickel in my coin roll hunting. I know this year really started the thickened devices doubling that exploded in 2023. Is this just Die Deterioration or is it actually some kind of DDR?

The thickening is particularly evident on the bottom serifs of FIVE CENTS, the tops of UNITED, and the bottoms of E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Just as an example of what I find unusual, compare the left five with thickened serifs to a normal, sharply defined five from a typical 2020-P from the pile.

What I always try to pay attention to with doubled dies of any denomination, is if the thickness is in all directions, and yours would appear to be. To me, this is deterioration, not a doubled die but just my opinion.

While nothing stands out to me, I also wouldn't rule it out at being doubled at this point. Your description of what you see is how the doubling occurs on these coins. Unfortunately, your lighting is hiding the areas I'm looking for in particular which are the bottom of the top serifs in UNI of united, bottoms of the top bars in the Ts of united and states and the middles bars Es in united and states.

While looking at DDRs for you to see what I mean (like DDR-008 which is very noticeable), I saw DDR-007 and maybe see the marker at the T in Monticello on your coin. It is worth taking a look. Often people say Die Deterioration with these DDRs but there are specific things to look for on them.

Seeker, I guess you are referring to WDDR-007 and 008? There is no DDR beyond 001, which is VV's site. As for the new pics, I see the same thing, the C shows the equal extra thickness all the way around it, no offset or odd-looking serifs, it's consistent like deterioration presents itself.
