*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***I was thinking about sending this 1943 steel penny out for grading, hoping to get ms68. Do you think I should try?

Should not have photographed it under plastic, because plastic electrostatically attracts dust.
Those dust particles are easily confused with tiny nicks that may be on the coin, making it impossible to grade, at higher levels, even as it appears on my 24 inch screen monitor.
Assuming that only 50 % of those tiny marks are dust particles, the grade seems to me to be MS-64.
Reverse appears to be much nicer than obverse.

I suspect it has been reprocessed and does not have original surfaces.

That was my thought as well, although I am way less pro at grading than westernsky. That unnaturally bright gleam and fuzzy devices are suggesting a replated zinc cent.

If replated this has no numismatic value. What does the rim look like?
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.artToo many hobbies .... too much work .... not enough time.

A pic of the rim--end on--would be useful. At this point, the coin appears to have been replated.

looks reprocessed - which means it would get a 'details' grade if you were to send it in..

Look at the edge of the coin. If it is shiny like the obverse and reverse, then it has been replated. If you can see layers of zinc coating over a steel core, then it is original. My money is that it has been replated which means it has no numismatic value.

The surfaces do look off. Here's a split image of an Uncirculated and replated/reprocessed steel cent.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

I don't know if it was reprocessed or not but it definitely came out of a penny roll I got from the bank.

pictures without the bag. Its possible my phone camera is altering the image. Do people re-plate zinc pennies and put back into circulation?

Did you look at the edge yet to see if it was replated or not? Still waiting for a picture of the edge but 99% sure it is replated.

with all, appears to be reprocessed and an edge pic would help confirm. Quote: Do people re-plate zinc pennies and put back into circulation? Yes, they make their way into circulation for various reasons.
