Looks like an old cleaning, which is what the dealer says. XF40 to my eyes. I'm interested at the right money. Thoughts?

too strong on both sides for a 40 I'm at XF45. if the coin was cleaned it was a long time ago and I would expect it has a good chance to grade straight. I think the small hairlines and marks here and there are from being circulated and just banging around in a pocket for decades

From the pictures, I would say it straight grades. Cleaning would have been long ago. XF-45

There's a visible halo around all the devices, that's one of the telltale signs of cleaning.

Lots of chatter in the fields. Cleaned or not, I am not fan.

I would disagree. The symmetrical toning/lighter areas around the stars, liberty & the date are a sure sign of originality IMO.
XF 40/45.

Bummer. I guess that means your money is probably better spent on another example.

There's always another one. I bid what I was willing to pay - somebody else was willing to pay more.

The winning bidder was Great Southern Coin, so it will be for sales again soon, probably flipped for twice that amount.
