the 8TF are well known so above average to strong strikes and this one definitely falls on the high end of strike. luster appears to be in place for the most part with some high device rub. surface preservation drops her for the obv fields, cheek and jaw. the overall eye appeal is just average for me but the lighting is not the best.

imo the hits on the cheek and jaw are not sufficient to lower the grade to a 62. based on my numbers applied to each of these categories and the overall look of the coin, I see it at a solid MS63 And if it was not for the field scratches under PLU and the jaw marks I think it could pull a + or maybe a 64. so one must then say how much do those 2 areas degrade the coin? As for PL designation, there is no way to tell without some type depth of field view so without that I can't see a PL designation on her.

@unimpossible: That sucks. If it's cleaned then it appears market-acceptable to me. Do you see spots of abrasions on either surface?

I see a bit of what looks to be die polish and maybe signs of a light wipe. Nothing that should detail it imo.

I was of the same opinion. My guess is that the hairlines near the BUS in Pluribus were the culprit - these didn't appear as pronounced in seller pics. Still kind of a drag for a 98% original coin.

Obviously something happened, but I wouldn't call that cleaning. Bummer for sure. The seller pics definitely down played those lines on the obverse.

Blowing up the obverse area around the"BUS," I don't see those lines crossing the letters, looks like they stop and start? Might something have happened to the planchet or die causing this?
