So, there probably isn't much interest in this year/mint Jefferson. However, some of the 1960's Jeffersons are conditional rarities. This particular year/mint has poor reverse detail in the majority of examples.
I am having a really hard time finding decent examples of a few 1960's Jeffersons in the budget I am willing to fork over.
Alll opinions, grading, or comments welcomed! Grading reveal will be Sunday night.

Lots of chatter on obverse but reverse looks pretty nice. Grading MS nickels is always tough as they all look the same to me. Easy 64 and 65 wouldn't surprise.

Lots of chatter on the center of the obverse portrait (cheeks, jawbone and jacket collar) combined with a couple of visible hits on the forehead and nose keep this out of gem grade IMO.

The reverse is clean enough to carry this to at least MS63. I would not be surprised at MS64.

with your comments regarding these years. they ran the dies until the died. the marks on the jaw and coat could be die related but most likely from just banging around in a bank bag.

Not surprised at the responses. 1964 P was a rough year for Jeffersons. The chatter on the jaw and cheek bone are seen on quite a few of the PCGS photo grade coins in MS65. It may have been die related.

It really comes down to strike quality. Finding detailed hair on the obverse and any stairs or detail on the reverse is relatively difficult. PCGS only has about 200 MS66's and less than 200 FS examples for the 1964 P.

Glad I didn't spend much on this one! Anything better on ebay right now was 5x-10x the price I paid. Still, this one falls a bit short in the Choice+ set I am building.

You should be pleased with the gem grade in such a tough date.

Despite the issues noted in my review, this indeed a most incredible 1964 Jefferson and a coin to be cherished.

A worthy addition to any collection.

Thanks for sharing it with us.
