thanks. looked that up and it does seem to have been a thing in the early 1990's pennies.

I agree with Errers and Varieties - it appears that your coin was struck by a grease-filled die. While there is a numismatic premium associated with it, it's very slight for such a minor example. However, it's a nice find and a keeper, as the cost of ownership is low.

Also, a Ridge Ring is showing on the obverse--a good indication of a Die Deterioration issue.
