My type coin for the "No Motto" version. How would you grade it? Also, especially visible on the obverse, there seems to be some "silver" toning, especially in the hair above the ear but below the tiara, in the hair behind the tiara, and between 2 and 3 o'clock on the peripheries. Have you seen this silver color often on gold coins?

I'll guess either AU-58 or MS-62.

- high AU / low MS. The silver toning could be from having a silver coin stacked on it.

I agree AU/MS but details due to whatever is going on with the fields on the reverse, looks messed with.

Thanks for the comments so far! One more day before I will reveal the grade.

Adam: What makes you think it has been messed with? I am always curious when people see things that I don't so I can learn. Thanks so much!

Taking a closer look at this on a larger screen, not my phone, I take my details comment back.

Just looking at this one section up close, the roller lines or die polish lines (not sure which) in conjunction with the discoloring, makes me think something was on the surface of the dies (not in the devices or incus parts) when this was struck.

I'm still very much an amateur, especially when it comes to gold. Would be curious to hear what others have to say about the fields on this one.

I'm going to guess AU58.

I'd guess AU58 too. I don't see anything concerning about the silvery color. There could have been traces of silver in the planchet or some friction against other silver coins or many other possibilities.

It seems most people went with AU on this one--it's hard to tell. I chose this date because it's a lot less common than some of the other No Motto years, like 1847.

PCGS calls it an MS(61).

So here is my question: I understand the arguments for AU-Can anyone who graded this coin as AU can tell me what makes this look cirulated, other than the weakness in the strike? Thanks.

The circled areas on the reverse don't look like strike weakness to me, looks like rub, hence why I went 58.
