Brandmeister Pillar of the Community United States 6454 Posts	Posted 03/21/2025 4:33 pm Guess I am going to be the dissenting opinion and call that Die Deterioration Doubling. The early 1970s era nickels had very thin lettering. If the letters had suffered MD, I think the missing metal would make them super thin. That melted butter look says DDD to me, and especially because it's spreading in opposite directions on opposing sides of center. It should be visible on Five Cents and USoA as well, and probably EPU. For whatever reason, DDD tends to spread outwards on nickels from 1938-1980s, then switched to centerwards for 2006+. Just my Two Cents. I could be wrong. Report this Post to the Staff
