I have 2 types of 2x2 holders , one is 37mm but they don't say that, they just say for silver or nickel dollars Canadian. The other is a 38mm 2x2 which I believe I got for my US large dollars. Now on both when I put a Canadian silver dollar in the 2x2 and put a staple on the 4 sides the Mylar window rips, lost about 8 2x2's then stapled on the 4 corners but now you can't right or have room to right the info you need.
I remember when I started putting the silver dollars in 2x2 I did not have this problem. Is anyone else having a problem with the Mylar windows or did I just get a bad batch? Edited by mcshilling 03/28/2025 3:41 pm

What brand are they? Also, you could try stapling only the two lower corners, although the coin might slide up.

The ones I got are from CA and they must be no name. With just 2 staple the side are open.

I've had that problem too. I think that some brands use a thinner mylar.

I use Cowen's and don't have a problem with splitting.

I've had the same problem with The large U.S. dollar size and I have received half dollar coins in 2x2's with the mylar ripped open. I suppose they are the cheap made in China ones sold on ebay. I agree that Cowen seems to be better quality and cost a little more. For the time being just to use up the supply that I have, I like to use oversize 2x2's. That is I use the large dollar size for halves and I use plastic flips for dollars and Silver Eagles. I will only be buying the Cowen brand once these are used up.

Try three staples, two on the open side corners and one at the top. Keeps the coin from moving but puts less stress on the window.

I just noticed that the older ones I have are 2x2 the newer ones are 1 15/16x1 15/16 so you don't have as much room to staple.

I've found that by stapling the two sides first, then slipping in the coin, then stapling the bottom last causes less 'plastic popping'. I do not staple the top/fold edge.

I have a good heavy duty stapler and found that it was causing a lot of my problems so when I do the large coins I use another stapler that has a softer hit when you put the staples in and that works better.
